A UK zoo has put out a job advert for people to dress up as blow-up birds and scare off seagulls.
Blackpool Zoo is looking for a team of animal lovers to fill the role of “Seagull Deterrent/Visitor Services Assistant” after the venue’s Lancashire seaside location meant visitors and animals alike found themselves plagued by the nuisance birds stealing their food.
Now bosses at the top-rated attraction are recruiting “visitor-focused” people to join the Visitor Services team and say successful applicants need to be “comfortable wearing a bird costume”.
The job advert reads: “At Blackpool Zoo it goes without saying that we love all animals! And as a seaside resort, Blackpool is not short of seagulls.
“However, the seagulls are proving to be a bit of a nuisance when it comes to trying to steal food from our visitors and our animal enclosures!
“We need to do what we can to keep the seagulls away from our main visitor dining areas, which is why we are looking for a team of people to join our Visitor Services team as ‘Seagull Deterrents’.”
The advert also says applicants need to be “friendly, energetic, flexible and outgoing” and will work varying seasonable hours.
Successful applicants will be working in the 32-acre zoo surrounded by more than 1,300 animals from across the world, including elephants, big cats and gorillas.
