President William Ruto has appointed former Central Bank of Kenya governor Njuguna Ndung'u as the National Treasury Cabinet Secretary.
Ndun'g'u will take over from Ukur Yatani, who held the position in former president Uhuru Kenyatta's last year in office.
Ruto named his Cabinet on Tuesday, September 27.

In his list of appointments, he rewarded his closest political allies who stood with him through thick and thin in the 2022 campaigns.
The head of state created the position of the Prime Cabinet Secretary, which was given to Musalia Mudavadi.
He also appointed Kithure Kindiki as Interior CS, Aisha Jumwa (Gender), Aden Duale (Defence), Wahome (Water CS), and Alfred Mutua as Foreign Affairs CS.
Other appointees were EAC and Regional Development (Rebecca Miano), Transport (Kipcgumba Murkomen ), Environment (Roselinda Soipan Tuya) and Lands (Zachary Mwangi).
Ndung'u served as Central Bank of Kenya's governor from March 2007 until March 2015.
He holds a bachelor of arts and a master of arts in economics from the University of Nairobi.
The career banker obtained his doctorate of philosophy in economics from the University of Gothenburg in Sweden.

Ndung'u previously served as director of training at the African Economic Research Consortium.
He also worked as an associate professor of economics at UoN, teaching advanced economic theory and econometrics.
At the same time, Ruto announced that the Directorate of Criminal Investigations boss George Kinoti had resigned.
The president recommended the position be advertised and directed that someone must be identified for the position in an acting capacity.
