Lupita, through her Instagram account on Wednesday, August 7, 2024, said that the acting industry has lost an incredible actress.
According to Lupita, Connie Chiume’s demise was a big b**w to Hollywood.
“We have lost a library! May @conniechiume rest in peace and power,” she mourned.
According to the statement posted on her social media account by her family, the iconic actress died at the age of 72 on Tuesday, August 6, 2024, at Johannesburg Hospital while receiving treatment.
The family further asked for privacy during the difficult period adding that burial arrangements and their details will be communicated later.
“The Chiume Family regrets to inform you of the passing of the internationally acclaimed award-winning actress Connie Chiume,” Connie Chiume’s family posted.
“Connie Chiume 72, passed on at Garden City Hospital today, August 6, 2024. The Family asks for privacy during this difficult period. The family will communicate further details.”
Apart from acting the multi-award-winning actress was a trained teacher but later became a household name on mainstream television.
The Iconic actress, in 2018, starred in the famous Black Panther film, Wakanda Forever as Zawavari after replacing Zuri who played the role of Forest Whitaker as Wakanda’s Elder Statesman.
Chiume was also highly celebrated for her appearances in Beyoncé’s Disney musical film based on The Lion King, in which she played Simba’s mother, Sarabi.
The multi-talented actress also graced South African TV for decades in shows such as Rhythm City, Zone 14 and most recently, Gomora.
The 72-year-old actress first came to the limelight in 1989 when she graced the screens with her art in the popular South African television series Inkom’s Edla Yodwa.
The fallen actress leaves behind four children (two sons and two daughters).
