Police have launched investigations into the loss of three communication gadgets that got lost during operations in the Nairobi Central Business District (CBD).

According to a police report seen by K24 Digital, a police officer attached to the Nairobi Regional Police Headquarters from the undercover team was on duty along Mfangano Street on Tuesday, January 17, 2023, when he lost the three gadgets in unclear circumstances.

“It was reported that at around 6:00 pm, Constable Alpha Mike of the undercover team, Nairobi Police regional headquarters lost police communication gadgets issued to him while on duty along Mfangano Street within Nairobi Central Business District. The models were: EP680, make Huawei, black in colour,” the police report read in part.

The gadgets are yet to be recovered and efforts are on to trace them.

Citizens have been called to be on the lookout and if found surrender to the nearest police station for further action.

Separately, police officers from Njiru recovered a Ceska Pistol, one magazine, and three rounds of 9mm ammunition from a suspect while on an operation along Kangundo road.

The crew who were on a normal operations patrol came across three male youths who were armed while on a motorcycle.

They confronted them at Kobil petrol station in the Shujaa area and challenged them to surrender.
They defied the order and started shooting at the officers which led to a shootout incidence.

Two were fatally shot as the rider escaped and the police are on hot pursuit.

The officers conducted a search and a Ceska Pistol, one magazine, and three rounds of ammunition were recovered from the suspects.

“Police officers from Njiru who were on patrol along Kangundo road came across three armed young men who were on a motorcycle. They pursued them and cornered them at Kobil petrol station. They challenged them to surrender and they defied which led to a shootout. As a result, two of the suspects were fatally shot as the rider of the motorcycle, registration number KMVE002 escaped to an unknown destination,” the police report indicated.

“They recovered a Ceska pistol S/Number KE-AP G0857, one magazine, and three rounds of 9mm ammunition,” the report added.

The bodies of the deceased were moved to the City morgue awaiting identification and an autopsy.
