Retired President Uhuru Kenyatta is back on Twitter three years after he deactivated his account.

The former Head of State resurfaced on Twitter with a new handle (@4thPresidentKE) on Monday, November 28, 2022.

The account was the first to share details of Uhuru’s engagement during the opening of the Third Inter-Congolese Consultations of the Nairobi Peace Process, where he was the facilitator.

Uhuru’s Twitter account (@UKenyatta) with over 3.6 million followers was deactivated on March 22, 2019. Then-State House Chief of Staff Nzioka Waita said the decision was made following unauthorized access to the President’s official account.

He revealed that he found himself pre-occupied with negative comments on his Twitter posts, spending an awful amount of time trying to understand why Kenyans on Twitter (KoT) were always harsh.

After much reflection, Uhuru said, it dawned on him that he was better off dwelling on constructive activities like strengthening family bonds than wasting time on Twitter.

“Ata Twitter niliondoka huko nikaona hiyo kitu ni bure ni matusi tu. Unakaa hapo unasoma hulali. Afadhali nilale nipige story na mama…nilale niamke niende kufanya kazi,” Uhuru said during the launch of the drive to collect 1 million signatures to endorse the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) report on November 25, 2020.
