14 people have lost their lives following a grisly road accident at Kakwamunyen area along the Lodwar Kakuma road.

According to a police report seen by K24 Digital, the accident involved a lorry ferrying 26 passengers and goods.

In the unfortunate incident, the lorry driver is said to have attempted to swerve after coming to contact with a camel trying to cross the road.

However, the driver lost control of the vehicle due to the heavyweight of all the passengers and goods on board.

Consequently, the vehicle overturned and landed in a culvert on the right side of the road killing 14 on the spot and leaving 12 injured.

Those killed include eight female adults, three male adults and three male minors.

Police arrived at the scene and towed the remains of the damaged vehicle to the police station pending investigations.

“It happened that the m/vehicle was being driven towards Kakuma general direction and upon reaching the location of the accident there was a camel that was crossing the road from left to right and the driver swerved to the right to avoid hitting it,” the police report reads in parts.

“Due to the heavy weight of the vehicle from the goods in it and the passengers, the driver lost control of the vehicle causing it to overturn and land into a culvert on the right side of the road occasioning the above several injuries to the passengers and the vehicle extensively damaged,” the report added.

The survivors were rushed to Lodwar county and referral hospital where they currently receive treatment. Meanwhile, the bodies were moved to the facility’s morgue.
