Speaking during a presser at the Kenya Institute of Curriculum Development (KICD) in Nairobi on Friday, January 27, 2023, the CS termed the claims as propaganda. He also noted that the claims were mere misinformation spread by sadists.
“I have seen misrepresentation and incorrect information. This is propaganda coined by sadists,” Machogu stated.
He additionally pointed out that the results showed a marginal improvement compared to the 2021 results.
While reiterating that the results were authentic, the CS cautioned Kenyans who claimed that schools in Kisii recorded impressive performance compared to seasoned power giants because of their affiliation with him.
“Each and every one of us comes from a community. We don’t have to profile communities because the CS of Education comes from Kisii and then you start profiling communities that 800 As came from where the CS comes from. Kenyans you can be able to see the kind of falsehood being propagated around,” he stated.
The leaders from across the country expressed their discontent with the honesty of the results.
Led by former Chief Administrative Secretary (CAS) for the ministry of Industrialisation, Trade and Enterprise Development, David Osiany, the leaders claimed that some of the schools that recorded stellar performance may have cheated their way to the positions.
“There is honour in honesty. Congratulations to the KCSE students who may not have posted the fake As, but genuinely earned their B, C or even D. It’s honourable to know that your result is from genuine effort. I promise you, it will pay off in the long run,” the former CAS stated.
Kakamega Senator Boni Khalwale also echoed Osiany’s sentiments noting that he was ‘hoping’ that the claims posed were just mere allegations.
“We hope the emerging allegations of cheating in the 2022 KCSE are just that, i.e., mere allegations. ‘The collapse of the education system is the collapse of a nation,’” he said while quoting a statement by former South African President Nelson Mandela.
Similarly, Nairobi’s Director of Health Services Ouma Oluga also poked holes in the results stating that something was ‘foul’.
“Something is foul with the 2022 KCSE results. End of story!” the former Secretary General of the Kenya Medical Practitioners Pharmacists Dentists Union (KMPDU) said.
