Juja Member of Parliament George Koimburi now wants Mang’u High School management to henceforth consider placing the best-performing students from the area in the national school.

The national school that is in Juja constituency, Kiambu County, has been accused of failing to admit children from the area and has instead been reportedly signing up Form Ones from other parts of the country.

Being the only national school in the constituency, the lawmaker insisted that some slots should be given to KCPE candidates with over 400 marks to not only empower the boy child but also motivate learners to work harder in their studies.

“Juja students deserve some slots at Mang’u High School being the only national school in this area. I will initiate talks with the management to address the issues that have been making them not consider our children here,” Koimburi noted.

Mang’u High School is among the national schools in Kiambu County that have been posting excellent KCSE grades every year.

Some other national schools in the county include Alliance High School, Alliance Girls, Mary Hill Girls, Limuru Girls and Loreto High School.

Speaking when he awarded students who garnered 400 marks and above in the constituency, Koimburi regretted that education had been neglected by former leaders and pledged to transform the academic standards of the expansive area.

He at the same time called on other stakeholders to join hands in offering quality education to all children whether from poor or well-up backgrounds for posterity.

“Our teachers have worked very hard despite the challenges they faced such as Covid-19 which saw the academic calendar squeezed. To encourage them to do even more going forward, stakeholders need to join hands to help in the realization of improved education standards in Juja,” the legislator added.

On their part, school heads also decried that despite trying their best, Mang’u High School has been inconsiderate as most of their best-performing learners end up getting admissions to schools in far-flung areas.

Led by Eunice Wambui Mwaura, the headteacher of Jomo Kenyatta Primary School where four pupils managed over 400 marks and Wilson Maina of remotely located Munyaka primary school, the school heads urged Mang’u High School management to consider their candidates to encourage other learners.

“Enroll our children on Mang’u High School. Juja children are left out, sometimes we even tell them not to select it as in most cases their applications are never considered,” said Wambui.
