President William Ruto has led the nation in mourning the death of Anne Nanyama, Speaker Moses Wetang’ula’s mother.
“Our condolences to Speaker Moses Wetang’ula and Mheshimiwa Timothy Wanyonyi for the loss of your dear mother. Anne Nanyama was a progressive, responsible and caring woman who raised upright children,” Ruto’s statement read in part.
“May God grant comfort to the family, friends and the people of Bungoma at this sad time,” it added.
“The passing on this morning of Khukhu Anne Nanyama Wetang’ula, the mother of Hon Moses Wetang’ula, Speaker of the National Assembly, and Tim Wanyonyi, MP for Westlands, has plunged the Parliament of Kenya and indeed, the entire country into deep mourning,” Kingi said in a statement shared on X.
Nairobi Women Representative Esther Passaris also joined her colleagues in sharing condolence messages following Nanyama’s death.
She asked Wetang’ula and his brother Wanyonyi to take heart and know that they had her support during their difficult moment of mourning.
“This profound loss is deeply felt and our thoughts and prayers are with you during this challenging time. Please remember that you are surrounded by the love and support of your colleagues and friends. May her cherished memory bring you comfort and strength in the days ahead,” Passaris’s message read in part.
