Cabinet Secretary nominee in the Ministry of Gender, Culture, Arts, and Heritage Stella Soi has valued her wealth at Ksh70 million.
“My net worth is Ksh70 million, ranging from assets, homes, pieces of land, a few cows, some orchards, and a few shares and security,” Soi told the members of the committee.
She told the Committee on Appointments that she has built a career in public administration, working in several ministries.
She said she has served in public service for 29 years, in the central government. Soi served in various ministries, including the State Department of Public Service and the Labour Department, and was part of the team setting up the State Department of Gender in 2004.
“I want to believe that given an opportunity to interact with issues of Gender-Based Violence (GBV) and the need to protect witnesses for purposes of ensuring that there is success in prosecution and to strengthen the administrative justice system,” Soi stated.
She noted cases of femicide and other forms of GBV were on the rise. To address the issue, Soi proposed key policy frameworks and research to get to the bottom of the issue.
“Rise in femicide cases is a concern. It is an area that needs research and documentation and strong witness protection,” she stated.
She further rooted for initiatives to empower the boychild in the community.
“We need to come up with programmes targeting boy-child and also encourage them to have families. The empowered girls in our homes don’t have husbands,” Soi observed.
In terms of culture, Soi vowed to push for the repatriation of all stolen artefacts if approved to occupy the office.
“All the artefacts that was stolen from this country will be brought back to the national museums,” she pledged.
