Mwingi Law Court on Wednesday, December 7 granted three Chinese nationals Ksh2 million cash bail with the same surety in a case where they are accused of obtaining money by false pretense.

The three namely Le Chuan Chen, Le Lei Chen, and Qi Zhao Zin were released after pleading not guilty to the charges.

The charges were obtaining money by false pretense contrary to Section 313 and conspiracy to commit a felony contrary to Section 393 of the Penal Code.

“Each accused is granted a bond of Ksh2 million with surety of a similar amount. The accused persons are to deposit their passports in court.

“Upon their release after raising the bond, each should swear an affidavit of where they will be residing,” Principal Magistrate Ismael Ruhu ruled.

The magistrate further directed the three to report to Mwingi DCIO office once every week.

The case will be mentioned on December 21.

The accused are said to have jointly entered into a contract with Ederman Properties Kenya to supply gypsum production machines in July 2020.

They obtained Ksh320 million but instead of supplying the materials, they are accused of going into hiding only to resurface more than two years later with a different set of machines which are said to be below the agreed standards and did not meet the specifications outlined in the contract.

He claimed that the suspects wanted to escape liability by giving false information to the Chinese Embassy and police.

Ederman Properties Kenya has been manufacturing gypsum ceiling boards at Mutwangombe along the Mwingi-Garrissa highway since 2012.
