Controversial Mumias East MP Peter Salasya yesternight shocked netizens after he made public his February payslip.

If the payslip shared on his Twitter account is anything to go by, the outspoken lawmaker took home Ksh97,000 after hefty deductions on his Ksh1.17M gross salary.

The first-term lawmaker pockets a basic salary of Ksh426,000, an administrative allowance of Ksh134,000, a house allowance of Ksh150,000, a sitting allowance of Ksh90,000, a telephone allowance of Ksh15,000 and a vehicle fixed cost of Ksh356,525. This totals a gross salary of Ksh1,171,525.

Aside from Ksh393,216 that Salasya pays as statutory deductions, the MP’s gross salary is also subject to other deductions that total Ksh681,111.

The DAP-K MP stated that he shared the payslip to demonstrate to Senate Majority Leader Aaron Cheruiyot, CS Kipchumba Murkomen, and Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua that all Kenyans have shares in the country.

Salasya stated that he contributes north of Ksh300,000 to the exchequer and he, therefore, has a right to demand development from the Kenya Kwanza administration.

“Let me demonstrate to Hon Aaron Cheruiyot, deputy prezda Gachagua my great friend CS Murkomen that all Kenyans have shares in this country. I CONTRIBUTE 300K plus to revenue and the president is the only our watchman for our contributions and it’s our right to ask for development,” he posted.
