Kajiado Central MP Elijah Memusi Kanchory graduated with a Bachelor of Laws Degree from the University of Nairobi on Friday.
The legislator has also enrolled in the advocate training programme at the Kenya School of Law.
He is a member and immediate former vice chairperson of the departmental committee on defence and foreign relations in Parliament.
Kanchory is a successful businessman and a family man.
Born in 1977 in Kajiado Central, Kanchory grew up as a humble boy in his Moipei village until he attained the age of going to school.
Before enrolling in school, Kanchory, like the other boys in his village, spent most of his time tending family goats and cows and watering them in the nearby seasonal rivers.
He followed the dictates of his Maasai parents to the letter as he grew up with other village boys in the hands of their parents.
In 1984, Kanchory was enlisted at Moipei Primary School in class one and in 1991 he sat for his Kenya Certificate of Primary Education.
After passing his KCPE, Kanchory was picked to the then-prestigious Olkejuado High School in 1992.
In 1996, Kanchory sat for his Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education and two years later joined the Africa Nazarene University for his undergraduate course.
He later graduated with a Bachelor of Commerce (Hons) – Banking and Finance option in 2002.
After his graduation, Kanchory was employed as premier relationship manager at the Barclays Bank of Kenya in 2003, where he served for five years until 2008.
After leaving the bank, Kanchory went on to establish two companies; Osilligi Lang and Oloililai Construction companies, which he led as a director.
A year later, he founded and patronised the Memusi Foundation, an organisation that has been assisting less fortunate families and their children in Kajiado Central.
In 2015, Kanchory made a stab at the country’s politics after the then-ruling party – The National Alliance nominated deceased Joseph Nkaissery to take up a government assignment.
Nkaissery resigned as Kajiado Central MP after he was appointed Internal Security Cabinet secretary and paved for a by-election that attracted Kanchory and others.
At the time, Kanchory was a favourite in TNA and was expected to win the party nomination ahead of the by-election, but former president Uhuru Kenyatta’s party allegedly rigged him out in favour of Patrick Tutui.
Kanchory moved to the Orange Democratic Party. He emerged the winner, beating the TNA candidate.
He became the next MP after Nkaissery until today. The soft-spoken elected leader has been at the forefront of the fight against graft.
The MP fights for integrity in the county government and Parliament.
Kanchory has patronised a successful constituency development fund for all the years he has been in Parliament.
