South Korean musician and world-famous superstar, Jeon Jung-kook, known mononymously as Jungkook, of the music group BTS, added another notch to his belt on Sunday when he performed at the opening ceremony of the 2022 World Cup taking place in Qatar.
The musician took to the stage to perform his new tune “Dreamers” for the 60,000-capacity stadium. Surrounded by dancers and Qatari singer Fahad Al-Kubaisi. A performance Fifa said set the standard for World Cup opening ceremonies to come. If not for his sheer global star power, Jung Kook also set a new record for the fastest official FIFA World Cup song to hit No. 1 on the iTunes Top Songs chart in the United States—the song took only 2 hours and 11 minutes to top the chart.
Additionally, Morgan Freeman and his signature booming voice, nicknamed by movie lovers “the voice of God”, also performed at the opening ceremony offering a message of inclusion, detailing a call to celebration, love and acceptance.
“I heard something beautiful – not just music, but also this call to celebration,” said Freeman. “This is all so new. All that I had known before was a land that seemed to be in turmoil, where families are forgotten, and I stopped hearing your voice.”
Morgan was joined on stage by Qatari YouTuber Ghanim Al Muftah who invited the world to come together.
