An East African Pentecostal Church (EAPC) church in Imenti North, Meru County was the target of a brazen burglary as thieves stormed and made away with property worth Ksh4.5 million.

In the incident that occurred on the night of Wednesday, October 26, 2022, the thieves said to be members of the church, demolished the perimeter wall worth Ksh320,000 before storming in and parting away with properties.

Witnesses told a local publication that the thieves had a truck for the goodies. And that they (thieves) even carted away with the church’s pulpit.

John Ndumba, the church chairman, told the local publication that the cause of the burglary was the fight for ownership of 10 churches between the EAPC and EAPC Living Waters.

It is alleged that the two denominations are divided after a court found leaders at EAPC Living Waters guilty of contempt of court after failing to vacate 10 churches owned by EAPC.

Ndumba who believes that the stolen items will be moved to EAPC Living Waters noted that a section of members from Living Waters thought it was fair to relocate with properties they had contributed to over the years.

“Living Waters bought another parcel of land nearby. We believe that is where the stolen items will be taken to build another church,” he stated.

“Even if legal action is not taken against them, the consequences of destroying a church building will follow them. However, I urge residents to live harmoniously,” he added.
