Agriculture remains the dominant sector in Kenya accounting for about 22.4% of the overall Gross Domestic Product (GDP) according to the 2022 Economic Survey.
The Central Bank of Kenya's MPC Agriculture Survey released in July 2022 noted that the sector employs over 40% of the total population and more than 70% of the rural populace.
One such farmer who is reaping big from agriculture is James Mureithi from Nakuru county who keeps rabbits.

In an interview with TUKO.co.ke, Mureithi revealed rabbit farming earns him up to KSh 100,000 on a good month.

The middle-aged farmer revealed that he started rearing rabbits in 2016 because he needed urine for his farm.
He decided to commercialise the project as it grew.
Besides selling bunnies, Mureithi also sells the animal's urine and droppings getting handsome returns.
He uses the proceeds to manage the farm.

The farmer revealed that rabbit urine returns vary depending on seasons.
Mureithi explained that rabbit farming and demand were on the increase across the country. He noted a kilo of rabbit meat retails at KSh 1,000 as reported by Who Owns Kenya.
The farmer said his biggest problem is keeping the rabbits in a clean environment free of diseases.
He expounded that diseases contracted by rabbits are caused by humans.
In an exclusive interview with TUKO.co.ke, 28-year-old Gordon Chui revealed he milks 155 to 175 litres daily.
The Chuka University graduate decided not to look for a job as he was passionate about farming, having started keeping dairy cows in 2015.

The former pig farmer who has employed one worker sells his produce to Brookside Dairies, Mt Kenya Milk and Meru Central Dairy.
In other news, a Kakamega graduate resorted to farming after unsuccessfully looking for a job.
Vincent Isambo graduated from Regions Group International College with a diploma in business management in 2014.
The youthful man, who was born in a family of nine, told TUKO.co.ke in an interview that efforts to look for a job bore no fruits.
He returned to his home village of Ebuyonga, Khwisero sub-county and ventured into agribusiness and now makes an average of KSh 20,000 monthly.
