The facility said on Monday, October 17, that vasectomy services will be available to interested Kenyans for five days, between 14th-18th November 2022.

Maries Stopes was responding to a post doing rounds on social media inviting Kenyans to book appointments for the procedure.

“Hello, yes we are aware of the post doing rounds. Just to clarify that we will be offering the services between 14th to 18th November,” Marie Stopes Kenya said in a tweet.

According to information on the Marie Stopes Kenya website, a vasectomy is a contraceptive method suitable for men who are sure they don’t want any more children.

“It’s a popular method of family planning chosen by millions of men worldwide. It’s safe, effective and offers a permanent solution to contraceptive needs,” Marie Stopes says.

The surgical procedure takes about 15 minutes at the facility’s branches in Kenya.

“The procedure takes about 15 minutes, and is one of the most effective methods of contraception that exists – the failure rate is approximately 1 man in 2000.”

The procedure involves a specialist closing the tubes that carry sperm from the man’s testicles.

“Closing the tubes means there is no sperm to fertilise the woman’s egg during sex. The tubes normally deliver sperm into and from a man’s penis when he ejaculates, so preventing this process is a highly effective contraceptive method. It will not affect you or your partner’s ability to have an orgasm or your sex drive,” Marie Stopes adds.
