A Kiambu politician linked to the murder of her husband George Mwangi has been detained for seven days pending investigations into the incident.

Gladys Chania and her co-accused Morris Kamau Mbugua appeared before Kiambu Resident Magistrate Wilson Radin on Monday, October 17, but no charges were preferred against them.

But the Magistrate granted the police seven days after which the suspects will take their plea.

Chania, who unsuccessfully ran for the Kiambu Woman Representative seat during the August polls, was arrested last week in connection with the macabre murder of her 58-year-old husband.

The deceased’s charred body was found dumped at Kieni Forest with investigators linking the murder to a love triangle.

It is alleged that Chania planned the killing after establishing that the father of their three children was intimately involved with another woman.

The Rwanda-based contractor had just returned home on September 13, 2022, when he met his untimely death.

According to reliable sources, Mwangi and his wife had a frosty relationship after she established that he was having an intimate relationship with one Lucy Muthoni.

Mwangi’s family members revealed to sleuths that the deceased had introduced Muthoni to family members as his second wife.

Before meeting his death, Mwangi alongside Muthoni and Chania had allegedly attended a family gathering in Kimunyu in Gatundu North.

The deceased later returned to his Mang’u home after dropping Muthoni off and reportedly found his wife Chania already at home.

Detectives gathered that Muthoni and the deceased had planned to go out the following day but he didn’t turn up as agreed.

Muthoni, who has since recorded her statement with the police, said that she used a friend to call Mwangi but was told by the suspect that he(Mwangi) had left his phone behind and gone for a walk.

Asked why she didn’t call him directly, she said that she hardly called him whenever the deceased was with his wife owing to the fact that she had previously been reprimanded by the accused over the same.

Chania told investigators that the deceased left the house on foot on Sunday, September 9, 2022, at 10:00 am and never went back. She reported that he was missing at the Mwea Police station at 8:00 pm. on Tuesday, September 11, 2022.

Eyewitness claim they saw a pick-up vehicle speeding towards  Kieni Forest, where the corpse was later found the next day wrapped in black polythene papers under a stack of boxes and empty cement bags.

The sleuths have since established that the suspect had recruited Kamau as a replacement for John Mwangi, who had worked at the residence for four years.

Kamau was employed on the day of the murder after John reportedly failed to return after being sent to deposit some cash on M-Pesa.

John is still missing and police are still looking for him.

During Chania’s arrest, police say she was driving the husband’s pickup vehicle registration number KBY 849M. Blood stains were discovered on the truck’s cabin floor, along with empty cement bags and manila ropes that matched those found covering the deceased at the scene.

Detectives believe probing the murder believe the deceased was brutally butchered in his bedroom on the upper floor of his palatial home.
