President William Ruto Tuesday highlighted the robust relationship between Kenya and Switzerland, emphasizing their unique status as host countries for United Nations agencies.

He expressed optimism that these strong ties will be further enhanced as discussions on resolving double taxation issues near completion.

“Kenya and Switzerland have the unique status of being host countries for United Nations agencies. Our two nations have strong ties which will be further boosted when discussions on sorting out double taxation are completed,” President Ruto stated.

The resolution of double taxation is anticipated to significantly increase trade between the two nations, fostering greater economic collaboration and opportunities for business communities in both countries.

“Consequently, our business people will trade more,” Ruto added, underscoring the economic benefits of the impending agreement.

In addition to the double taxation negotiations, President Ruto revealed ongoing discussions for a carbon credit agreement, poised to be mutually beneficial.

“We are also negotiating a carbon credit agreement mutually benefiting our two nations. Kenya has already developed regulations that will guide carbon trading,” he noted.

This initiative aligns with Kenya’s commitment to environmental sustainability and the global push towards reducing carbon emissions.

President Ruto also took the opportunity to bid farewell to the outgoing Swiss Ambassador to Kenya, Valentin Zellweger.

During a ceremony at State House Nairobi, Ruto commended Zellweger for his contributions over his four-year diplomatic posting, which has seen a deepening of bilateral relations and cooperation on various fronts.

As Ambassador Zellweger prepares to depart, President Ruto’s remarks highlight a period of significant diplomatic and economic achievements, with promising developments on the horizon for Kenya-Switzerland relations.
