In a statement issued on Wednesday, December 18, 2024, the utility company announced that electricity had been restored to most regions, including North Rift, Central Rift, Western Kenya, South Nyanza, and parts of Nairobi and Mount Kenya.
Kenya Power noted that efforts are ongoing to ensure that power is fully restored to the remaining areas.
“We are pleased to report that power has been restored to most parts of North Rift, Central Rift, Western Kenya, South Nyanza, and sections of Nairobi and Mount Kenya regions following a widespread outage,” the statement read.
Adding;
“Our team is diligently working to restore supply to all the remaining areas. We thank our customers for their patience as we work towards full restoration of normal service.”
Earlier, Kenya Power acknowledged that the outage had affected a majority of the country, sparing only parts of the Western and North Rift regions.
The power company said the exact cause of the blackout had not been established.
“We are experiencing a widespread power outage affecting most of the country, except parts of Western and North Rift regions. The cause of this outage is yet to be determined,” the company said in an earlier statement.
Adding;
“We regret any inconvenience this may have caused and request our customers to be patient as we work towards restoring normalcy at the earliest opportunity.”
The utility provider further promised to provide updates on the restoration process as they continue to investigate the cause of the outage.
“We will provide an update on the progress of the power restoration process in due course,” Kenya Power stated.
The blackout, which occurred at midnight, disrupted businesses, households, and essential services across the country.
