Education Cabinet Secretary (CS) Ezekiel Machogu while releasing the 2022 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KSCE) examination results noted that the male candidates outshined their female counterparts.
Speaking at Mtihani House in Nairobi on Friday, January 20, 2023, the CS said that 881,416 candidates sat the 2022 KCSE exams, 444,644 were males while 437,772 were females.
“The male in this category performed better and I hope that going forward the females will also be able to improve so that at least we have some kind of balance,” CS Machogu said.
From the results announced by the CS, 70,238 female candidates scored D+ while 64,783 male candidates scored the same grade. 79,935 girls scored a D plain and 75,545 boys got the same grade whereas 84,075 girls scored a D- while 83,683 boys scored a similar grade.
Compared to the 2021 KCSE results, there was a slight margin in the number of male students who scored Ds compared to the female.
In 2021, 57,849 male students scored a D+ while 58,506 females scored the same grade. 72,007 boys scored a D plain while 73,909 girls scored a similar grade. However, in the same year, the male candidates led in the number of D- with 93,798 while 93,466 females scored an equivalent grade.
Male students retained the highest position in the number of students who had an E.
Only 12,760 female candidates got E, with the number of their male counterparts hitting 18,062.
In 2021, 26,578 male students scored E while the record for female students was 19,573.
