Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka has assured Kenyans the opposition will oversight the government effectively.
He said that the Azimio la Umoja One Kenya coalition will soon form a shadow cabinet to ensure checks and balances in the Kenya Kwanza government.
Speaking during the burial of Mzee Stanley Aluma Omollo, the father of Homa Bay Town MP Peter Kaluma, Kalonzo said that they will put on toes the government to enhance transparency and deliver services to all Kenyans.
He said that the shadow cabinet must have a budget to enable officials discharge their duties without financial constraints.
The former Vice President said the shadow cabinet is going to be formed as soon as Azimio La Umoja One Kenya coalition leader Raila Odinga returns to the country from his foreign tour in India.
“We are going to form a shadow cabinet to check and pin point all wrongdoing in Ruto’s government. I am just waiting for Raila to return home so that we begin the process of forming it,” Kalonzo said.
He said there was need for all Kenyans to be served equally irrespective of political affiliation.
“There are some lapses which we are seeing in government and we must come up with a proper strategy for ensuring that Kenyans received services they deserve,” Kalonzo said.
He cautioned opposition legislators against being enticed by Kenya Kwanza government to support their motions in parliament.
Kalonzo said there is need for team work by Azimio La Umoja One Kenya Coalition leaders to oversight the government.
“Attempts by the government to bribe some Azimio legislators to vote for government motions will not derail our efforts of playing the watch dog role,” he said.
Kalonzo told the church to be at the forefront in pointing out any wrongs committed by the government, challenging them to give its opinion on the introduction of Genetically Modified Organisms (GMOs) by Ruto’s administration.
The wiper leader told the government to stop ethnic clashes between residents of Kitui and Tana River counties, arguing, the government has capacity to ensure residents of the two counties live in harmony.
“I know President Ruto is visiting Kitui County on Sunday. I urge him to end conflict between residents of Kitui and Tana River counties. Residents of those counties are Kenyans who need security for their lives and property,” Kalonzo said.
Amongst those in attendance were Governors Gladys Wanga (Homa-Bay) and James Orengo (Siaya), Senators Oburu Oginga (Siaya) Kajwang’ (Homa Bay), MPs Lilian Gogo (Rangwe) and Martin Owino (Ndhiwa), Eve Obara (Kabondo Kasipul), Ong’ondo Were (Kasipul), Millie Odhiambo (Suba North) among other leaders
Orengo echoed Kalonzo’s sentiments saying the government must be checked thoroughly to ensure it delivered on its manifesto.
Gogo expressed concerns over the rising cost of living yet President Ruto promised to reduce cost of living to Kenyans during campaigns.
“The cost of living in Kenya is too high. This government should consider welfare of Kenyans as it promised during campaigns,” said Owino.
