Businesswoman-cum politician Millicent Omanga has backed Roads, Transport, and Public Works Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen’s calls for lifestyle audit of public officers.

Omanga through her official X account on Saturday, July 6, 2024, said that the lifestyle audit should be conducted as soon as possible.

Omanga in her response to Murkomen’s calls stated that the earlier the lifestyle audit is conducted, the better.

Hii lifestyle audit inafaa ifanywe haraka .… mapema ndio best

Omanga’s remarks come moments after Murkomen proposed the introduction of the Lifestyle Audit Bill by the National Assembly, which he says will help address the concerns that state and public officers are living beyond their means.

He also stated that the said bill should investigate living standards of public officers to ascertain consistency with their lawful income, and set the maximum cost of personal wear/outfits and cars.

“In line with the current National Conversation and to address the concerns that state and public officers are living beyond their means, I propose that Parliament urgently introduces and passes a Lifestyle Audit Bill to provide the parameters of auditing the state and public officers and to investigate their living standards to ascertain consistency with their lawful income. The Bill should among others set the maximum cost of personal wear/outfits, cars etc . I Submit,” Murkomen stated.

Omanga and Murkomen were subjects of discussion on Friday, July 5, 2024, when President William Ruto engaged Kenyans on X Spaces.

Kenyans raised concerns about the kind of opulence displayed by a section of public officers and President Ruto’s close allies.

Omanga’s top of the range vehicle that she displayed on her social media accounts in May 2024, was sneaked into the president’s discussion with Kenyans on the X Spaces.

Kenyans while questioning the President on the source of income of his allies, pointed out that Omanga who only served as a nominated senator for a single term, was flaunting a vehicle worth millions, to Kenyans who are struggling to make the ends meet.

Murkomen was also questioned over his expensive outfit of watches, shoes, belts and even sun glasses.

Omanga’s support for Murkomen’s proposal, however, does not come as a shock.

On Friday, July 5, 2024, when President Ruto announced the suspension of the hiring of Chief Administrative Secretaries (CAS), Omanga took to her X account to support the move.

Omanga who was set to benefit from the CAS positions as an appointee in the Ministry of Interior, stated that Kenyans must be led the way they desire.

“I strongly support the suspension of the appointment of CASs & changes in government as announced by President William Ruto this afternoon. Kenyans must be led the way they desire, and their input into the governance system is something that I place high premium on,” she stated.

On June 29, 2024, Omanga took to her official X account and claimed that she had never benefitted from the Kenya Kwanza administration.

“I need to clear a misconception. I neither work for the gov nor am I a tenderpreneuer in this gov. I’m a private person doing private business. Isitoshe, I’ve never benefited from this gov either in cash or kind. Wanted to make this clear! Ready to respond to all quizzes,” Omanga said.
