Former Nandi Hills Member of Parliament (MP) Alfred Keter has revealed some of the questions the police asked him when he was forcibly arrested on Sunday, June 30, 2024.
Speaking on Monday, July 1, 2024, when he presented himself to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) headquarters after being released from Kamkunji Police Station, Keter said that the police questioned him about his relationship with former President Uhuru Kenyatta.
Keter, who is a fierce critic of President William Ruto, pointed out that the police also asked him about his relationship with Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.
“The questions that I was asked, one of it is my relationship with the former president Uhuru Kenyatta and my relationship with the current Deputy President,” Keter said.
He further noted that the police also questioned him about firearms that are said to have come from Congo.
Keter went ahead to state that the government is trying to intimidate him into silence, noting that his main problem is raising concerns about the Finance Bill, the high cost of living and other promises that the Kenya Kwanza administration made.
“And then issues to do with firearms from Congo, I think it is a movie. Let us allow it to go as per the law but generally, don’t intimidate us into silence. We know the issue is about the issues we are raising on Finance Bill, the cost of living and the many promises they made,” Keter who was accompanied by a section of Azimio la Umoja-One Kenya coalition leaders said.
Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna who accompanied Keter to DCI headquarters said that they had raised concerns about the many other Kenyans that are still missing.
Sifuna said the DCI had denied any involvement in the abductions of the missing Kenyans.
He regretted the incident that happened to Keter, noting that he would never wish it on anyone.
The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) Secretary General also condemned President William Ruto for what he termed as maintaining the hit squad that consists of men who are even unknown to the police.
“We have made two requests as the leadership of Azimio led by Kalonzo Musyoka. We are aware that there are many Kenyans still missing. We have asked the DCI and they are claiming that it isn’t them who took these people. Ruto is still maintaining police hit squads and they are the ones conducting the abductions. We will not be treated like criminals,” Sifuna said.
He was taken to Kamkunji Police Station where he was grilled before being released.
