Speaking during a press briefing on Thursday, November 7, 2024, at Harambee Annex in Nairobi while bidding farewell to the Interior Ministry, Kindiki said that he is exiting the office at a time when the country is reporting increased cases of mysterious disappearances, abductions and femicides.
In his farewell speech, Kindiki said that he prays and hopes that the incoming Interior Minister will be able to continue with their fight against crime and tackle the rising cases of insecurity.
“I am exiting the interior ministry office at a time when there are reports of cases of mysterious disappearances, abductions and femicide. I have handed over the responsibility of cracking down on those emerging reports of crime to my successor,” he stated.
“I pray that my successor will build on the gains we made and will succeed in rolling back the emerging reports of mysterious disappearances, abductions and femicide. and I wish him well.”
He went on to thank the president for his unconditional support and encouragement during his tenure in the Interior Ministry adding that he has served the country for two years uninterrupted.
“Throughout my tenure in office, I have benefitted from the direct support and encouragement of President Ruto. I thank him for giving me the privilege to serve my country as the Interior Minister for an uninterrupted two years,” he said.
Addressing the media, the police boss raised alarm on the increased insecurity cases urging Kenyans to collaborate with the security agencies in tackling gender-based violence in society.
“Murders against women have increased, with 97 cases having been reported in the last three months,” Eliud Langat said during the press briefing on Wednesday, October 30, 2024, at the National Police Headquarters.
“This troubling trend highlights the urgent need for focused action and collaboration to tackle the widespread problem of gender-based violence in society.”
The DIG further disclosed that several suspects of the murders have been arrested and arraigned in court.
“As investigations continue, several suspects have been arrested and arraigned in court,” he stated.
