Police have launched investigations into the killing of a medical officer in Rodi Kopany, Homa Bay county.
Police reports indicate that the lifeless body of Mary Kwamboka Ogechi, 28, was found in a pool of blood in her rented house on Sunday, December 4.
The body of the medic, who worked at a private health facility in Rodi Kopay town centre, was discovered by a friend and neighbour at around 11:00 am.
The neighbour, in her police statement, said she became suspicious when she went to visit Kwamboka and found the door locked from the outside.
“The neighbour peeped through the window and saw the lifeless body of her friend lying in a pool of blood, and that is when she raised alarm,” police said.
Homa Bay County Directorate of Criminal Investigation Officer (DCIO) Abed Kavoo said police suspect the deceased was murdered by her lover on Saturday night.
The boyfriend is believed to have gone into hiding after the incident.
“Our officers are looking into the incident, but we suspect the murder may have been carried out by her boyfriend,” he said, noting that the boyfriend has gone into hiding, and could not be traced,” the police boss disclosed.
According to the officer, the woman was stabbed in the neck by her assailant who later locked the door from outside.
“The woman had deep cuts on her neck and face indicating that she was stabbed with a kitchen knife before the assailant locked the door from outside and disappeared,” Kavoo added.
A blood-stained kitchen knife was recovered from the scene.
The body of the deceased was moved to Homa Bay County Hospital morgue for preservation and autopsy as police continue with investigations into the incident.
Cases of homicide have been on the rise in recent weeks.
The deceased was a driver at the Kenya School of Law.
The incident was reported to the detectives by neighbours who heard a commotion and loud screens from the couple’s house in the dead of the night.
The neighbours are said to have rushed the victim to hospital but he was unfortunately declared dead on arrival.
Police had a day earlier arrested the main suspect behind the brutal murder of Naneu Muthoni, who was found murdered in her house at Onyoka estate in Langata on November 14.
The suspect Thomas Muthee Ng’ang’a, who was the husband to the deceased, was arrested along the Kenya-Uganda border in Malaba.
Police said the suspect had been hiding in the border town since the murder was reported.
“The suspect is believed to have masterminded the gruesome murder of his lover whose lifeless body was found sprawled on a sofa, with a deep cut on the forehead and blood oozing from her nose,” DCI said.
At the time of the suspect’s arrest, some personal effects belonging to the deceased were recovered from him.
