Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has asked National Intelligence Service (NIS) Director General Noordin Haji to resign over the Finance Bill 2024 protests.
While addressing the Nation on Wednesday June 26, 2024, DP Gachagua implored Noordin Haji to step aside and allow President William Ruto to pick another competent NIS boss.
According to Gachagua, what unfolded during the anti-Finance Bill 2024 protests could not have hit the unprecedented levels if Noordin Haji had properly briefed the President.
He also directed Noordin Haji to take responsibility on the deaths recorded during the anti-Finance Bill 2024 protests.
“Noordin Hajj must take responsibility for the deaths, for failing Ruto by not doing his job. He must resign and allow the President to pick a competent person, “Gachagua asserted.
The Second in Command shifted all the blame on NIS by labelling it a dysfunctional unit.
“NIS slept on the job. Senior police officers told me they did not receive intelligence on the intensity of the protests. Noordin Hajj crippled NIS chasing away best officers. Had Noordin Hajj done his job we would not be here,” Gachagua stated.
According to Gachagua, the spy chief was also plotting to implicate him and former President Uhuru Kenyatta for sponsoring the protests.
Gachagua made it clear that Ruto’s administration will not allow to be mislead by Noordin who he insisted is not fit for the job.
While pushing for his resignation, Gachagua wondered how Attorney General Justin Muturi’s son was kidnapped yet the country claims to have a National Intelligence Service.
“What will happen to other Kenyans if the Attorney General’s son is being abducted? Yesterday Hajj tried to draft lies that Uhuru, I included were behind Tuesday’s chaos.”
Further, Gachagua added that some MPs have been targeted by NIS officers over the contentious Finance Bill 2024.
“I have been told MPs who voted no have been targeted by NIS for intimidation.”
He thus insisted that Noordin Haji must resign for failing the President.
