Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has finally broken his silence after Kithure Kindiki was sworn in to replace him following his impeachment.

Gachagua shared a poignant moment on social media, posting a photo of himself with his wife and children as they enjoyed quality time together at their rural home.

This personal snapshot comes amidst a media blitz surrounding Kindiki’s ascent to the deputy presidency.

In his statement on social media, Gachagua expressed joy for having his family by his side.

“Home Sweet Home! Thanking God for the gift of my family. The smell of fresh grass, sounds of chirping birds is what a happy family needs. I will remain forever grateful to God, for giving me a loving and supportive family. We are happy to be home, where I was born and brought up!” Gachagua wrote.

The former deputy president noted that he would now spend time enjoying walks in Hombe Forest and soaking in the breathtaking views of Mt Kenya.

The courts had slammed the breaks on Gachagua’s impeachment but on Thursday, October 31, 2024, a three-bench judge panel lifted a conservatory order that had blocked the swearing-in of his successor Kindiki.

The ruling from Justices Eric Ogola, Anthony Mrima, and Freda Mugambi underscored the need to avoid a vacancy in the Deputy President’s office.

The judges noted that extending the conservatory orders would leave the office unoccupied, as the orders did not reinstate Gachagua.

“The applications for conservatory orders are hereby disallowed. The conservatory orders on 18th of October 2024 in Kerugoya High Court are hereby discharged,” the bench rendered.

The conservatory order blocking Kindiki’s swearing-in was issued by a Kerugoya Court on October 18, 2024, soon after President William Ruto nominated Kindiki to replace Gachagua who was impeached on October 17, 2024 by the Senate.
