In a sweeping reshuffle of his administration, President William Ruto has announced several high-profile appointments, as detailed in a gazette notice dated August 23, 2024.
Farida Karoney, who previously served as Cabinet Secretary (CS) for Lands in President Uhuru Kenyatta’s administration, has been appointed to chair the National Lottery Board.
This new role, which takes effect immediately, is expected to capitalize on Karoney’s extensive experience and previous government service.
In another significant move, Samuel Tunai, the former governor of Narok, will now lead the Kenya Medical Supplies Authority (KEMSA) as its Chairperson.
Tunai’s appointment follows the removal of Irungu Nyakera from the position.
Nyakera will transition to a new role as Chairperson of the Kenyatta International Convention Centre (KICC), succeeding Adelina Mwau.
The appointment of Karoney and others came hours after Ruto made senior executive appointments, assigning key roles to former CSs Eliud Owalo and Moses Kuria.
Ruto appointed Owalo, the former CS for Information, Communication & Digital Economy, as the Deputy Chief of Staff, Performance and Delivery Management.
Kuria, the former Cabinet Secretary for Public Service, Performance, and Delivery Management, has been appointed as a Senior Advisor in the Council of Economic Advisors. This move is intended to bolster the implementation of the BETA Plan by the Broad-Based Government.
Additionally, Dennis Itumbi, a known ally of President Ruto, has been given a prominent role within the Executive Office of the President. This appointment underscores Ruto’s commitment to reinforcing his core team with trusted figures.
