Former Lands Cabinet Secretary (CS) Farida Karoney recalled an incident that caused her late colleague George Magoha to boil with anger.
Speaking at Magoha’s requiem mass held at the Consolata Shrine on February 9, 2023, Karoney said the deceased was totally mad when he lost his title deed to fraudsters.
The former Lands CS said that Magoha would be very rough on her and that when he lost his title she actually thought he was going to beat her up.
“He would be very rough on me by the way once he lost his title deed and I thought he was going to beat me up. You know he was a heavily built man. Then he came and told me ‘Faridah how can I lose my title deed and you are the Minister for Lands?’ – Coz we were very good friends. I asked him ‘Prof can you calm down, what do you mean you lost your title deed?’ Then he said that he had gone to City Hall and found that somebody had changed his title deed into his name,” Karoney recalled.
The former Lands CS further revealed that she secured Magoha’s title deed and digitized it, adding that she assured the deceased that even if she was no longer in her docket his land would never be taken away from him.
“So I told him to relax the custodian of the title deed to land is the national government and for as long as I am here your land will not be lost. So I actually got his file, kept it in my office and made sure that it was digitized. So I told him even if I am not Minister for Lands your title will not be lost because I have digitised it,” Karoney added.
Magoha’s former colleagues, family and friends paid touching tributes during the requiem mass.
The late Education CS will be laid to rest at his home in Umiru, Nyamnina, Siaya County on Saturday, February 11, 2023.
Magoha died peacefully on January 24, 2023, at the Nairobi Hospital surrounded by his family and loved ones following a cardiac arrest.
