The fire which broke out at 3:30 am razed down the hospital’s Pharmacy store. The value of the property destroyed is yet to be established.
Speaking to K24 Digital, Buruburu OCPD Francis Kamau said the cause of the fire is yet to be established.
“The fire broke at around 3:30 in the morning. We have launched investigations to establish the cause and the value of the property that was damaged,” he stated.
“The Nairobi City County firefighters’ team came almost immediately when we notified them of the incident. They took like twenty minutes to arrive at the Hospital which is quite commendable,” he added.
Nairobi’s Health CEC Anastacia Nyalita affirmed that the county team and police are assessing the damage and investigations are underway to ascertain the cause of the fire.
She stated that everything is under control and the hospital will continue with its operation as usual.
Nyalita noted that the county has made arrangements to redirect some patients to Mama Lucy Kibaki and Mbagathi Hospitals in case of any overflows.
“Our team is on the ground and is assessing the damage caused by the fire. Let patients who had planned to go to Pumwani go as the hospital is operating as usual despite the fire. Incase of an overflow, they will be redirected to Mama Lucy and Mbagathi Hospitals where they will be attended to,” she stated.
