The premier women’s rights organisation in a statement on Tuesday, August 20, 2024, said it was deeply concerned with the escape of the prime murder suspect from police custody.
FIDA-Kenya in the statement issued via their official X account demanded that the police rearrest Jumaisi within the next three days, and proceed to charge him in a court of law.
FIDA-Kenya further threatened to mobilize nationwide picketing to express their collective outrage and demand accountability, should the police fail to rearrest Jumaisi.
The organization has urged relevant government agencies to move with speed and conclusively investigate the incident.
“Failure to do so will lead us to mobilize nationwide picketing to express our collective outrage and demand accountability. The safety and security of our communities , women and children in particular, can’t be compromised, and we urge all relevant agencies to act swiftly and decisively.
“Today, August 20, 2024, morning hours, there was an incident of prisoners escaping that happened at Gigiri Police Station. 13 prisoners escaped from the cells, among them 12 Eritreans who were arrested for being illegally in Kenya and one male murder suspect, namely Collins Jumaisi Khalusha, who is connected with the Kware murder incident,” Masengeli stated.
Masengeli noted that the police preliminary investigations indicate that the daring prison break was aided by insiders.
