A male suspect linked to recent incidents of robbery in Nairobi has been arrested.
After his arrest, the suspect escorted officers to his home in Wangige where they recovered several exhibits.
He is also said to have been a habitual offender and an ex-convict.
“Police in Kilimani Nairobi through the use of CCTV cameras have nabbed a male suspect linked to recent robbery incidents within the city. The suspect who is an ex-convict took the officers to his house in Wangige where officers recovered several exhibits, among them shoes and clothes,” the police report read in part.
The matter remains under investigation. The suspect is currently in police custody awaiting to be arraigned in court.
A Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) military police sergeant said the deceased was spotted approaching the gate box and the guard challenged him to stop by firing one round in the air as a warning.
The sergeant added that the deceased was shot in the neck as he kept approaching the guard even after the first warning shot was fired.
“He was shot in the neck and died on the spot,” the military police sergeant said.
The deceased was identified as 25-year-old Juma Kisao Kombe.
The body was transferred to the Coast General Hospital mortuary awaiting postmortem.
Police are yet to establish why Kombe was trying to breach Mariakani barracks while naked.
However, police said the deceased had been arrested in the past and questioned over reported cases of robbery, murder and drug trafficking in the area.
Some locals claimed that the deceased was advised by a witch doctor to approach the barrack’s gate naked while walking backwards as he would be invisible to the military guards.
The locals suspected that Kombe was on a mission to steal weapons from the military facility.
Police are, however, investigating the case to get to the bottom of the bizarre shooting incident.
