The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) Tuesday filed a suit in Court seeking to recover 10 parcels of public land worth Ksh 2.4 billion grabbed from the Moi International Airport in Mombasa and belonging to Kenya Airport Authority (KAA).

In addition, the Commission is seeking to recover Ksh 9.8 million being illegal compensation with respect to some of the parcels of the land compulsorily acquired by the National Land Commission for the Construction of the SGR and the Dongo – Kundu Kipevu Road Project in Mombasa.

EACC through a statement says that the compensation was paid by NLC to the East African Gas Company Limited, the current registered owner of all the parcels of the Airport land, whose Directors include  Joshua Chelelgo Kulei, Caroline Jebet Kigen and Kipkurui Kimosop.

The grabbed land sought to be recovered is public land that was set aside for use by Moi International Airport, Mombasa under the management of Kenya Airports Authority.

It includes part of the Moi International Airport runway, a UN support base, and a Kenyan Military Base and its Watchtower.

In the suits filed at Mombasa Environment and Land Court, EACC has sued the following persons:

“The National Land Commission Officials are sued because of facilitating illegal compensation of parcels of the land following compulsory acquisition for construction of the Nairobi – Mombasa Standard Gauge Railway and the Dongo – Kundu Kipevu Road Project, despite the fact that the parcels were public land set aside for Moi International Airport,” reads the statement in part.

EACC notes that due to the fraudulent acquisition of Airport land, KAA was deprived of a strategic asset for the administration, control, management and advancement of state operations relating to Moi International Airport, Mombasa.
