A police officer attached to Sakutiek Police Station in Narok Central Sub-County has been arraigned in a Narok court for allegedly defiling a 16-year-old girl who was in police custody.

Anthony Leteipa Nanyukie was alleged to have taken the girl from the police cell to his house within the police station where she spent the whole night on December 5, 2022

The teenage girl had been held at the station together with her 17-year-old boyfriend and they were expected to be charged with defilement.

The police officer who appeared before Narok Chief Magistrate Samuel Mungai pleaded not guilty of the charges.

Through his advocate Charles Langat, the accused pleaded with the court to release him on bond saying he was the sole breadwinner of his seven children.

Langat also requested his client to be held at Sakutiek Police Station.

However, the prosecution side opposed the prayer saying the officer committed the heinous offence at the station hence should not be allowed to go back as he would easily tamper with the evidence.

The court denied to release the police officer on bond and instead held him until Wednesday, December 7 when his fate on whether he would be released on the bond would be ruled.

At the same time, the court was informed that the minor was still receiving medication at the Narok County Referral Hospital while his 17-year-old boyfriend was in police custody.
