President William Ruto’s Cabinet nominees have been urged to uphold to their pledges if appointed into office.
Through a statement, the National Council of NGO’s also called upon the nominees to implement the various pledges and those for Kenya Kwanza Manifesto.
The Council lauded the nominees who were able to articulate well on the issues as asked by the Parliamentary Committee on Appointments Chaired by Speaker Moses Wetangula.
They further lauded the Committee for asking questions relevant to what Kenyans to see implemented so as to improve the lives of the people.
“The council shall remain committed to the needs of all Kenyans. The NGOs Council of Kenya provides proactive Leadership in the NGOs/CSOs Sector in Kenya as it enhances the self-regulation of NGOs and assists them to realise their potential in improving services that improve the socio-economic status of Kenyan society in pursuit of sustainable development,” said Stephen Cheboi, the Councils National Chairman.
The 15-member committee on Appointments of the National Assembly concluded the exercise on Saturday after a rigorous five-day vetting process of 24 nominees to the Cabinet, 22 as Cabinet Secretaries, one as Prime Cabinet Secretary and one as Secretary to the Cabinet.
The Moses Wetangula led committee has retreated to draft a report to be debated, considered and voted on in the National Assembly as required by the Public Appointments Parliamentary Approval Act of 2011.
According to the Public Appointments Parliamentary Approval Act 201 Article 8 subsection (2), “At the conclusion of an approval hearing, the Committee shall prepare its report on the suitability of the candidate to be appointed to the office to which the candidate has been nominated, and shall include in the report, such recommendations as the Committee may consider necessary.”
Lawmakers in the National Assembly will then debate, consider or even review and vote on the report.
