Some 23,044 job applicants applied to fill 293 vacant positions advertised by Public Service Board in Bomet County.
In a situation that has painted a grim picture of the extent of unemployment in the country, 233 of the job seekers are PhD holders while 698 have Master’s degrees.
“On 25th January 2023, the Bomet County Public Service Board (BCPSB) advertised 293 vacant positions in various county departments and closed on 14th February 2023.
“Subsequently, the Board received a total of 23,044 applications comprising 13,593 males and 9,451 females.
“This is also inclusive of 311 People Living with Disabilities (PWDs),” the board said in a notice dated February 27, 2023.
To start with, the Head of State promised that his government would designate spaces for traders in the Jua-kali sector to do their business in key cities and towns.
“We will move in parts of the country but we are starting with Nairobi county where we intend to create 20 markets. With proper policies in place our young people will have opportunities to set up businesses,” he said.
He added: “Our immediate agenda is to create a favourable business and enterprise environment, decriminalise livelihoods and support people in the informal sector to organise themselves into stable, viable and creditworthy business entities.”
