The nomination of Aisha Jumwa as Gender and Public Service Cabinet Secretary (CS) and her Agriculture and Livestock Development counterpart Mithika Linturi now hangs in the balance after Azimio-leaning legislators recommended their rejection.
The Azimio Members of Parliament in the vetting committee said the two have integrity issues that contravene the provisions of Chapter Six of the Constitution.
“They noted that the basis for the rejection of the two nominees was premised on integrity questions, contrary to the clear provisions of Chapter Six of the Constitution.
“The members were of the firm view that Chapter Six of the Constitution was put in place by Kenyans at constitution making, well aware of the highest ethics of standards of ethics and morality they needed to see the holders of public offices,” a committee report tabled by Majority Leader Kimani Ichungwa read in part.
During his vetting, Linturi disclosed to the committee that he was battling 35 cases in court.
On the other hand, former Malindi MP Jumwa is facing graft and murder charges in court.
The committee, however, unanimously rejected the nomination of Tourism, Wildlife and Heritage CS Peninah Malonza.
They agreed that the nominee lacks the requisite abilities and experience to serve as CS for Tourism.
“The nominee did not demonstrate knowledge on topical, administrative, and technical issues touching on the Ministry of Tourism, Wildlife and Heritage.
“Consequently, the nominee lacks requisite abilities and experience to serve as the Cabinet Secretary for Tourism, Wildlife and Heritage,” the committee said in a report tabled in Parliament.
