Anti-Ruto peaceful demonstrations kick off in Kisumu

Hundreds of Kisumu residents have taken to the streets following the mass action calls by Azimio la Umoja – One Kenya Coalition leader Raila Odinga.

Transport was paralyzed in several parts of the town as the protestors matched from Kondele to the city’s Central Business District.

A number of business shops were also closed as the business men and women in the Lakeside city joined the rest of the people in the peaceful protest.

They claimed they cannot contend with the high cost of living.

The crowd matched all the way to Huduma Centre to present a memorandum to Kisumu County Central Assistant County Commissioner Hussein Hallaso as they chant anti-Ruto slogans.

The Kisumu County Deputy Governor Mathews Owili said that they will be conducting peaceful demonstrations every single day until March 19, 2023 as they wait for the mega demo in Nairobi on March 20 as announced by Raila.

“As the people of Kisumu, we want to prove to the entire world that we stand with Raila Odinga and we do not recognise the presidency of Mr. Ruto,” Owili said.

On his side, speaker Elisha Oraro also noted that they will not relent until the end.

While receiving the memorandum, Hussein urged Kisumu residents to remain calm.

“I want to plead with you to remain calm during this period and ensure that you conduct peaceful demonstrations without destroying anyone’s property,” he said.
