The government has announced plans to curb cases of LGBTQ agenda cropping up in Kenyan schools.
While addressing the Senate Committee on Thursday, March 9, 2023, Education Cabinet Secretary (CS) Ezekiel Machogu disclosed that a committee has been formed to tame the ‘infiltration’ of the agenda in question.
He noted that the committee has been formed in conjunction with the Church and the Ministry of Education.
The CS stated that the committee will be led by Archbishop Jackson Ole Sapit.
“It’s called the Chaplains Committee. It’s chaired by Archbishop Jackson Ole Sapit. We cannot allow those issues (LGBTQ) to infiltrate our schools. We aim to establish chaplaincies in Kenyan schools,” he stated.
Machogu’s sentiments were in response to nominated senator Tabitha Mutinda’s question regarding the measures his ministry was taking to deal with the LGBTQ agenda in schools.
Archbishop Ole Sapit who spoke to a local publication claimed he was not aware of the committee as mentioned by the CS.
“I’m now in Kisii and heading to Katakwa Diocese in Western. I will be back on Monday. As for the committees you’re talking about, I’m hearing from you. Ask the CS, he knows better,” he added.
