A police officer in Kisii is currently nursing serious injuries after a suspect attacked him using a jembe.

The suspect, Anthony Rakamba is said to have attacked the officer when he arrived at his residence accompanied by other officers.

At the time, the police who acted on a tip-off had stormed his house to arrest him for chopping off his neighbour’s hand. He had gone into hiding to evade arrest.

“The police had woken him up and upon learning that the police were there to arrest him, he opened the door and attacked the officer with a hand hoe, inflicting a deep cut into his head. The officer also suffered a fractured arm,” Masaba North Sub-County Deputy Police Commander Hassan Bashir stated.

In his defence, the officer shot him to disable hime befor he was arrested.

The wounded officer and the suspect were rushed to Kerok Sub-county hospital where they were given emergency treatment before being rushed to the Kisii Teaching and Referral Hospital (KTRH).

“The officer and the suspect were rushed to Keroka Subcounty Hospital where they were given emergency treatment before they were transferred to KTRH,” Bashir added.

The two are currently stable.

Elsewhere, a man in Nairobi was distressed after a gang posing as police officers robbed him of his cash.

Police say the three men ambushed the victim identified as Stanley Kiarie as he was waiting to board a matatu to Kamende.

At the time, the trio dressed in police attire claimed to be officers and arrested him for possessing bhang. As they were walking, the ‘officers’ planted rolls of bhang into his pockets.

They also demanded Ksh20,000 for his release, stole Ksh2,000 from his pockets and forced him to withdraw Ksh6,000 from his Mpesa.

Out of the money they took, they gave him Ksh500 as transport money before disappearing.

The police have since vowed to investigate the matter and bring the culprits to book.
