Two people lost their lives following an accident involving a private vehicle and a motorcycle in the Ndarugu area of Juja along the busy Thika superhighway.
The private vehicle’s driver is reported to have been driving from Thika towards Nairobi and on reaching Ndarugu area, he knocked a motorcyclist who was joining the road.
According to police, the accident involved a Toyota Probox vehicle and a motorcycle whose rider also sustained serious injuries and was admitted to Thika Level Five hospital in serious condition.
“The driver knocked down the said motorcycle whose rider misjudged the speed and distance of the said vehicle and abruptly joined the road,” read a police report.
As a result of the collision impact, two pillion passengers were fatally injured while the rider sustained serious injuries and was rushed to Thika level 5 where he is admitted in serious condition.
The bodies of the two deceased were taken to General Kago mortuary where it is preserved awaiting postmortem while the motor vehicle was towed to Juja police station for inspection.
Traffic flow was disrupted for some time as police officers and members of the public struggled to rescue the affected.
The accident that happened at a scene now described by locals as a hotspot came on the backdrop of other car crashes in the recent past that have caused deaths and grave injuries among motorists.
Motorists who spoke to journalists called on government agencies manning the highway to consider erecting speed bumps to avert further incidents saying the area has become notorious with deaths caused by speeding vehicles.
“Ndarugo has been in the news for the wrong reasons of being notorious with road accidents. This is something that the government can promptly deal with if they care to erect speed bumps along the area. We cannot afford to lose another life here,” Janet Njoki, a road user said.
