A police officer attached to Cooperative Bank Kisii is currently nursing injuries at Kisii Teaching and Referral Hospital after he was shot by his colleague.
Constable Winstone Wayaki of Critical Infrastructure Administration Police (CIPU) Kisii accidentally shot his colleague in the service who guards the bank and a security guard attached to BM security who also mans the bank.
The officer identified as Vincent Kemboi Chesang was shot in the left leg below the knee while the security guard, Jeremiah Orengo Ndiege, was shot in the left hand at the back of the palm.
The police officer on escort duties with BM Security discharged three rounds of ammunition from his official rifle during the incident.
“Winstone Wayaki of CIPU Kisii who was on money escort duties with BM Security Company at Cooperative bank Kisii town. He discharged three rounds of ammunition from his official riffle, whereby he accidentally shot at APC Vincent Kemboi Chesang on the left leg below the knee. He was also slightly injured on the left hand at the back of the palm Jeremiah Orengo Ndiege aged 54, a security guard with BM Security Company,” the police report read in part.
The two were all rushed to Kisii Teaching and Referral Hospital where Vincent Kemboi was admitted in stable condition while Orengo Ndiege was treated and discharged in fair condition.
The police visited the scene and the AK 47 riffle used was issued to them with a magazine loaded with 27 rounds of ammunition.
They recovered three spent cartridges from the scene and kept them as exhibits. A file of inquiry has been opened for the officer who shot the two people.
