Evans Ong’ongo was arrested together with the bar owner on Friday afternoon. At the time of his arrest, Kerera location area chief Samuel Mogaka, Nyamagwa sub-location Assistant chief Bonface Obiri Ogari and Nyumba Kumi member accompanied law enforcement officers to the lodging premises.

Ong’ongo is currently cooling his heels in police custody as police conduct further investigations.

Elsewhere in Kirinyaga county, police are probing the death of a 23-year-old man who was allegedly killed by two sisters at a bar in the county.

Police reports indicate that Boniface Wambugu was hit with a beer bottle at an entertainment joint in Mugamba village, Mwea East.

He sustained a deep injury on the neck and died on the spot.

Area police commander Daniel Kitavi confirmed the incident, saying the deceased was attacked by one Louise Wangerwe who was in the company of two others.

“The late Wambugu was hit with a beer bottle. He sustained serious neck injuries and died on the spot,” Kitavi said.

The police boss said the suspect escaped death by a whisker after a mob attack. She is currently being held at Itangi Police station.

“We urge members of the public to avoid taking the law into their own hands. Were it not for the police to intervene, the suspect who was beaten up by a mob would have died,” Kitavi said adding that the third suspect managed to escape.

Eyewitnesses linked the attack to a love triangle.

“The two sisters worked at the bar. One of them pounced on the victim after an argument,” Nimrod Muchiri, a resident, told a local publication.

The body of the deceased was moved to Kibugi mortuary pending further investigations into the incident.
