The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has announced that its anti-Terrorism Police Unit and Joint Anti-Terrorism Task Force units have received donations from the US government.

According to a statement by the Investigative agency, the donations which include two of the top-range vehicles and twelve motorbikes are aimed at boosting the units’ operations in the anti-terror campaigns.

The donations were presented to DCI boss Mohammed Amin by Federal Burau of Investigations (FBI) representatives Messrs Mike Solis and Julius Nutter.

The Mohammed-led agency stated that the donations were presented as a courtesy of the thriving relationship between the DCI and the United States.

“The donations were made courtesy of the growing and improving the partnership between the Directorate and the United States in the security sector,” DCI added.

DCI also noted that the partnership has led to a number of benefits that have contributed to the ability of their human resource capacity to respond to security challenges.

Speaking during the flagging-off ceremony, DCI director Mohammed expressed utmost gratitude stating that the collaboration has contributed to the overall reduction of reported cases of terror in the country.

“I am glad to note that the Directorate of Criminal Investigations has jointly with the U.S government, developed and benefited from similar programmes,” the DCI boss said.

“This has exposed our detectives to contemporary crime detection, prevention and interdiction techniques, leading to an overall reduction of crime, especially in reported cases of terror.”

He added: “In one such high profile collaboration, the U.S Department of State and the Federal Bureau of Investigations partnered in creating the first Joint Terrorism Task Force outside of the United States,”

“Under this prestigious programme, 42 detectives drawn from the Anti Terrorism Police Unit underwent a 12-week intensive counterterrorism training at the FBI Academy in Quantico, Virginia. We cannot thank the U.S government enough for this gesture,”

The joint terrorism task force was established after the al-Shabaab attacked the DusitD2 hotel.
