Independent Policing Oversight Authority (IPOA) has launched an investigation into the shooting of a man at Kambi Mwanza on Kakamega – Webuye Road on Monday, November 7, 2022.
“The team visited Malava Sub-County hospital and established that three persons, including a police officer were treated at the health facility for various injuries.
“Today, Wednesday, November 9, our investigators visited Kabras Police Station with the aim of acquiring more information and documentation which would aid the speedy conclusion of the investigation,” IPOA said in a statement.
The police oversight body has called on residents of the area to keep calm and await the outcome of the investigation.
“IPOA empathizes with the families, friends, and all those grieved by Mr. Ndombi’s death and assures them that our efforts will ensure that justice prevails.
“IPOA remains committed to being independent, impartial and fair,” the statement added.
In the Monday incident, police used live bullets to disperse Shambere Technical and Training Institute students who were allegedly engaging in mob justice.
According to a police report seen by K24 Digital, the students were beating up one of their own who was accused of theft.
“Deputy OCS Kabras IP Caleb Onyango and his team rushed to the scene to quell the situation. On reaching the scene, the crowd became very violent and turned against the police.
“The violent mob pelted stones at the police and in the process, the officers used live rounds to scare away the charging mob.
“In the process, one unknown male adult was shot in the head. Efforts to remove the body from the scene are still underway as the ground is still very hostile,” the police report released on Monday, November 7 read in part.
One student namely Delix Chitambasi suffered injuries during the incident and was rushed to Malava Sub County Hospital where he was admitted in serious condition.
