Police in Sotik, Bomet county have launched investigations into an incident where a family was burnt beyond recognition.
Residents of Kaptepengwo village woke up to the charred bodies of the family which were found strewn outside their house.
Sotik sub-county deputy Police deputy commandant John Ogola said they suspect an arson attack.
Ogola said detectives have been dispatched to the area to try and unravel the incident.
He said there was little information about the incident since the bodies could not be identified and may not tell if it is the family that was burnt.
“We do not know if the bodies are those of the family members. Investigations will help unravel it,” he said.
Residents who spoke said they did not hear the incident unravel.
They said they suspect the victims were murdered before being set ablaze.
One of them who did not want to be named said they only heard sounds of a burning fire but there was no alarm and they could not suspect foul play.
He said it was in the morning when the bodies were discovered and they connected the night fire to it.
Yakanek location chief Paul Sawe said since the bodies could not be identified they couldn’t tell who among the family was burnt.
“We do not know whether one of the family members committed the act but the investigation will unravel,” he said.
Sawe said since the family were barely new in the area.
“The family recently moved to the area and they are known to be doing firewood business and no issue of feuds has been reported in the past,” he said.
The chief revealed that homicide detectives have been invited to help in the investigations, saying there are a lot of mysteries surrounding the incident.
He said what further puzzled them was the fact that the house was not torched except for an iron sheet structure that was nearby.
