Kenyan streamer Showmax has released the company’s 2024 streaming data which shows the top 10 most watched shows on the platforms.

According to the platform, local productions dominated the list alongside international shows and movies.

“2024 viewing statistics released by Showmax showed that homegrown content continued to dominate alongside international hits like 2023 Golden Globe’s Best TV Drama winner ‘House of the Dragon’ and South Africa’s hit reality show ‘The Real Housewives of Durban’,” the company said.

In the list, is the Nick Mutuma-directed series, “Big Girl, Small World” wowed critics and attendees at the 2024 Dakar Séries Festival where it scooped the Best Short Series, Actress (June Njenga) and Editing trophies.

The 13-part series stars newcomers June Njenga and Daine Njuguna as Ciku and her former best friend Aisha respectively.

Also on the list, is original documentary ‘Nilichoma’ featuring well-known local figures who received an unexpected windfall – and then blew it all.

Upon its release in 2024, the show’s producer Ahmed Deen told KBC Digital, “Nilichoma is a collection of these dreams, shared by personalities we have grown up with and dreamt of being.

“These personalities either inherited, won or were awarded sums of money beyond their wildest dreams. But these dreams turned into a nightmare, and once they hit rock bottom, all that was left were hard lessons learned.”
