Murkomen, who currently serves as Cabinet Secretary for Youth Affairs, Creative Economy, and Sports, now takes on a role that oversees national security, law enforcement, and internal government coordination.
In a post on social media, the incoming Interior CS thanked Ruto for promoting him to the most influential ministry in the Kenyan government.
“I’m grateful and honored to have been reassigned by His Excellency the President, as the Cabinet Secretary, Ministry of Interior and National Administration. Thank you, Mr. President, for this incredible opportunity to serve our great nation in this capacity,” Murkomen said.
The incoming Interior CS pledged to advance the president’s agenda upon assuming the powerful docket, vowing to serve with utmost dedication.
President Ruto first appointed Murkomen Cabinet Secretary in the Ministry of Roads and Transport on September 27, 2022, following his victory in the presidential election.
Murkomen served in the Roads docket until July 11, 2024, when Ruto dismissed nearly his entire cabinet following Gen Z protests that almost toppled his government.
Ruto reassigned Murkomen to the Sports docket on August 8, 2024, when he reconstituted his cabinet.
Less than six months after taking charge of the Sports docket, Murkomen has now received a significant promotion, now serving as the Interior CS.
