A man has been sentenced to life imprisonment for defilement.

Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) in a statement issued on Wednesday, November 20, 2024, said that a Kandara court had handed Timothy Mwaura Mweru the life sentence after he was found guilty of defilement.

According to ODPP, the convict was charged with defilement on December 23, 2020, and after a full hearing, the court found that the prosecution had proved the case beyond reasonable doubt.

Principal Prosecution Counsel Getrude Kiilu and Prosecution Counsel Hilda Jebet handled the case on behalf of the DPP.

Kandara Principal Magistrate Eva Wambugu while sentencing Mwaura noted that he had taken away the minor’s innocence at the age of six.

The court also noted that the victim was left with psychological scars and that the accused was not remorseful even in his mitigation.
